We provided the detailed design for the conversion of an old lift shaft into a centralised plant room, which would distribute heat throughout the whole hospital.
There were no other disciplines involved in this project. We therefore attended site and took the measurements for the lift shaft and surrounding services. We drew the model of the lift shaft in-house, including designing the floors to go into the lift shaft. We inserted manufacturers’ BIM models into our model; and then designed the integration of the plant and equipment, within the lift shaft, but also how the new elements would connect into the current pipework.
We developed a detailed programme to enable the phased swap-over from the old heating system to the new system, ensuring minimal disruption, as the hospital remained fully occupied throughout. We were appointed to fully design phase two of the project.
