Modular Schools Batch B shortlisted for Education Project of the Year 2020
Modular Schools Batch B, a batch of four modular primary schools across England, has been shortlisted as the Education Project of the Year in the Offsite Awards 2020.
We provided the detailed building services engineering design in REVIT for all four schools under the Department for Education’s Primary Component Framework alongside AHR Architects and main contractor Spatial Initiative.
The batch includes Highcliffe Primary School in Leicester, Pound Hill Junior School in Crawley, Abbey Infant School in Birmingham and Collis Primary School in Richmond, London.
The Offsite Construction Awards celebrate the offsite industry, rewarding outstanding examples of prefabrication and factory-based methods to promote the benefits of a more modern, sustainable, and streamlined method of construction. The use of MMC (modern methods of construction) allows large elements of the works to be carried out offsite, thus enabling the construction phase to meet key milestones and minimise disruption on site.
Each school achieved TM52 Thermal Comfort & CBDM Compliance (climate-based daylight modelling) by our inhouse building & energy modelling department working closely with AHR Architects, whilst achieving an overall combined improvement of 57.75% to Part L of the Building Regulation by using a mixture of heat recovery systems, highly efficient lighting, hybrid ventilation units and solar photovoltaics.
Each school had a reduced construction phase over 40% quicker than traditional builds, showcasing the benefits of MMC and volumetric design within the education sector.
We look forward to finding out the winners at the Virtual Offsite Awards on 22nd September.
