Collis Primary School, Teddington

We were appointed to provide the MEP design for the new two-storey 3FE school building and a small detached administrative block for Collis Primary School. The new school buildings were constructed using MMC (modern methods of construction), enabling significant elements of the works to be carried out off-site, enabling careful coordination and phasing so that the school remained in full operation throughout the works.

The new primary school comprises teaching spaces for Reception and Years 1 and 2, office accommodation, a dining and assembly hall, and a school kitchen. The new buildings benefit from high-efficiency gas-fired condensing boilers serving both heating and domestic hot water demands by the use of domestic hot water storage calorifiers. All learning areas were supplied with low energy hybrid ventilation systems controlled via local room controllers that monitor temperatures and CO2 levels within each room.

The project included refurbishing the existing swimming pool’s heating system, with the old gas-fired boiler replaced with new high-efficiency air-source heat pumps. LED lighting was provided throughout, together with PV panels installed on the south-facing roof providing up to 20kW peak output. These low carbon solutions deliver a 35% improvement over Part L and a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.
