Successful handover of Marine Lake Health and Wellbeing Centre
Marine Lake Health and Wellbeing Centre, delivered in Partnership with Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, Marine Lake & Estuary Medical Practice and Age UK Wirral, has opened to the public in West Kirby.
The new three-storey BREEAM “Excellent” Health Centre, which was designed by Gilling Dodd Architects, S I Sealy and constructed by Eric Wright, brings together primary and community care, as well as providing access to specialist health and care services within an environment that is efficient and fit for purpose.
The modern health centre includes 23 GP consulting rooms, several clinical spaces, a community café, a pharmacy and a state-of-the-art training and education facility. One of the primary aims of the new health centre is to alleviate pressure from the local hospital departments by offering services such as hospital consultant clinics, minor procedures, ultrasound diagnostics, and investigations.
The building is designed to be as energy efficient as possible, utilising air source heat pumps with heat recovery and advanced energy metering. Air-source heat pumps allow for simultaneous heating and cooling, eliminating the need for separate systems and minimising energy usage. Incorporating advanced energy metering systems allows users to track energy usage and identify potential areas for optimisation.
The centre will serve as a pivotal base for an Integrated Care Team, which includes a district nurse, a community matron, care of the elderly, community physiotherapy, adult social care, speech and language therapy, podiatry, dietetics, and counselling services. With this comprehensive approach, the Marine Lake and Wellbeing Centre is a truly progressive and holistic centre that will enhance the overall healthcare provisions in the region.
