S I Sealy Celebrates 75 Years

This year, we celebrate our 75th anniversary.

Founded in 1949 by Sidney Inwood Sealy, we have grown into one of the foremost and most respected building services engineering design consultancies in the North of England.  With almost 40 mechanical, electrical, sustainability and digital design engineers, we are one of the largest specialist MEP design consultancies in the Northwest.

Commenting on the reasons for our success, Director Daniel Madden said: “As a business, we have continually innovated, staying at the forefront of our industry.  We advised clients on energy efficiency over 40 years ago, before it was a topic in the media or on Board of Directors’ agendas.  We now have a highly skilled, experienced and knowledgeable team of sustainability engineers, building & energy modellers and building physics engineers, branded as Net Zero UK.  This team works closely with our MEP engineers to advise clients on their journeys towards net zero carbon.  We have had some remarkable successes, such as identifying the potential 92% carbon reduction for the Liverpool Heart & Chest NHS Foundation Trust.”

This year, celebrating 38 years of working at S I Sealy, Director David Stafford continued: “Our people are the cornerstone of our success.  We have always supported the professional development of our team members and encouraged their career progression, promoting from within where possible.  Daniel and I would like to thank our team members for their continued hard work, can-do approach and loyalty to the S I Sealy ethos and culture.”

Our early projects included the John Dalton Building; Aytoun Building; and the iconic Domestic & Trades College in Manchester, affectionately called “The Toast Rack” by local residents.  Recent projects have included: the £120million refurbishment of the Grade I listed iconic Elizabeth Tower which houses Big Ben and which was shortlisted for the “Most Innovative Restoration / Refurbishment Project” at the Building Innovation Awards; the £125million net zero carbon Headquarters for The Co-Operative Group; the infrastructure works to support the £500million re-development of the North Manchester General Hospital site; and we are currently working on the £30million refurbishment of Grade II listed Accrington Market Hall and Burton Chambers.
