Accrington Market Hall and Burton Chambers
Our team, alongside AEW Architects, MAC Construction Consultants, and Bradshaw Advisory, successfully supported Hyndburn Borough Council in securing £20 million in funding from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund for the regeneration of Accrington town centre.
As part of the wider consultancy team, we helped the Council develop a long-term vision and strategic investment plan for the town centre. We provided detailed engineering design and cost estimates for the proposed renovations and refurbishments.
The projects are Grade II listed Accrington Market Hall and Burton Chambers. The Market Hall will be refurbished and transformed into a food and drink destination for local people, targeting the next generation and a new audience to the town. The Art Deco Burton Chambers, opposite the Town Hall, will be restored to become a co-working space for businesses complete with offices.
Our team is carrying out a full decarbonisation study of both the Market Hall and Burton Chambers. The Grade II Listed Market Hall is designed to be as energy-efficient as possible. The existing gas-fired heating will be replaced with complete electric heating and a large-scale Photovoltaic panel that will produce a proposed 235 kW, supplying significant electricity to the building.
