Sustainability

The Government has set an ambitious target to become net-zero carbon by 2050.  As part of this, every new building will need to be designed and measured in terms of its lifecycle carbon emissions and the energy consumed during its operation.

Our design engineers work hand in hand with our building & energy modelling team to deliver innovative and sustainable designs, such as the net-zero carbon Co-operative Headquarters whilst our technical expertise builds long-lasting relationships with clients by giving precise and practical advice throughout any project.  When we are first appointed, we take the time to understand our client’s objectives, budget, programme, and desire to include sustainable solutions. We pride ourselves on helping clients formalise strategies that will not just be sustainable but will deliver energy derived cost savings and carbon reductions.

We have an in-house Building & Energy Modelling Team who can advise on all aspects of building and energy modelling, climate change, comfort, and well-being in addition to decarbonisation and building regulation compliance. Our M&E engineers work closely with our Building & Energy Modelling Team to determine the optimum building services solutions to reduce a client’s energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Utilising energy modelling allows our design team to make critical judgements and improvements at the early design stages of the building and allows optioneering studies to find the most efficient solution for the client. All these factors lead to better energy performance and lower carbon emissions of a building, aiding in the fight against climate change.

We recently received a grant from the Government’s Technology Strategy Board, to research how best to future-proof a building so it can be adapted in later years in response to climate change.  This research informed our design of the new build Stoke Extracare PFI projects (385 apartments across three sites, Maple West, Oak Priority & Willow Barns), for which we achieved 45% carbon reduction.

Not only are we committed to designing sustainable buildings, but we also work within the framework of ISO 14001:2015 and are committed to minimising our impact on the environment and developing our policies and systems as a company.

If you are involved in any developments, new build, or refurbishment, and require expert advice on sustainability, decarbonisation or even how to achieve a net-zero carbon development, we are here to help.
