Gorton Mill House Extra Care scheme shortlisted for Inside Housing Development Awards
Gorton Mill House, developed by Southway Housing Trust, has been shortlisted by the UK’s leading Housing news publication, Inside Housing, for their Best older people’s housing development (urban) award 2021. The award celebrates the very best residential developments across the UK that serve the needs of their communities and strive towards sustainable solutions.
The £17 million development situated in Gorton, east Manchester, includes a mixture of one and two-bed apartments and has been designed to provide supported accommodation for over 55s with the option of onsite care. Making reuse of a brownfield site, the development is built around a shared garden and features 106 apartments, plus a community café, a hair and beauty salon, and a restaurant – all open to the public.
To reduce the carbon footprint, the design includes sustainable solutions such as ground source heat pumps via a network of external boreholes, providing the heating and domestic hot water to each dwelling, along with PV panels that are situated on the roof of the apartments and fed into the power supply. Our team are overseeing the design and build of the new development, which is set for completion this year.
The Inside Housing Development Awards Ceremony is being held at the InterContinental London – the 02 on Thursday 4th November 2021.
