Dorchester Primary School, Surrey
Client: Extraspace Solutions
Budget: £2.8m
Completed: 2014
We worked with Extraspace Solutions on Dorchester Primary School, a 2,000m2 school development for London Borough of Sutton which was awarded through the Crown Commercial Service Framework Agreement (formerly GPS).
The redevelopment of the school involved a 10 classroom extension, followed by a second phase encompassing the demolition of the existing building entrance and offices to build a new sports hall.
The facility provides classrooms, administration rooms, meeting rooms, dance hall, library, ICT and kitchen facilities.
Modular roof lighting was incorporated as part of the natural ventilation strategy and to maximise natural daylighting which in this case met the levels required in the EFA Design Guide.
A sloped ceiling was incorporated in the library and ICT Room to maximise the space, light and available fresh air. As a result of our thermal modelling exercise we introduced the use of phase change therma-cool tiles to ceilings in classrooms. This complied with the requirements of BB101.
Sustainability was a key Client and Planning requirement with a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’ required.
- BREEAM Very Good
- Maximising Natural Daylight
