Flight Club, Oxford

Client: Red Engine

Completed: 2024

Our team collaborated closely with Red Engine, the end-to-end in-house development team behind the delivery of Flight Club and Electric Shuffle, to deliver an early-stage feasibility study, detailed design, and site monitoring for the MEP installation and fit-out of the new Flight Club venue. Situated on the rooftop of the Westgate Shopping Centre, this new 7,000-square-foot venue has a capacity of 250 people and has been completely renovated and redesigned, featuring two terraces, a central bar, and 11 personal oche areas.

The first phase of the project was to complete the feasibility study to identify the condition of the existing site and services to determine the feasibility of converting it into the proposed venue. Following this, we provided a detailed design that involved heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water and drainage services, mode lighting control systems, fire and lighting control systems, small power supply, audio-visual systems, and the coordination of Heineken and Coke Python routes.

Our innovative design includes a sustainable hot water system that utilises a heat recovery system connected to a buffer tank. This system captures waste heat from refrigerators and freezers, providing 50% of the venue’s hot water needs and reducing carbon emissions by 2,000 kg annually.

Additionally, the new venue is equipped with carbon filters, electrostatic precipitation (ESP) filters, and UV lights within the kitchen’s supply, as well as extract ductwork to effectively remove pollutants and odours from the extracted air. Existing risers were repurposed for the new ductwork, which required careful coordination with the design team to ensure all services were properly aligned throughout the project.

Advanced technology has been integrated throughout the venue, featuring specialist wiring, high-speed cameras to support the darts vision system, and CAT 6 structured cabling to handle high data volumes.
