Medway Maritime Hospital, Emerald Ward, Kent
Client: Extraspace Solutions
Budget: £2.5m
Completed: 2016
Working with Extraspace Solutions, we delivered a mental healthcare project at the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT), Medway Maritime Hospital. The project included an 18-bed young adult, mental health in-patient ward. The facility is linked to the existing Priory House building on two sides, where significant refurbishment was undertaken to facilitate the efficient operation of both buildings during the construction period.
The new Emerald Ward is constructed on piled foundations going as deep as 25m, due to the ground conditions. The requirement was to provide a non-modular, bespoke, robust finished building. The solution incorporates a concrete floor, impact-resistant plasterboard, brick finished external façade, and a hipped roof, offering significant light into the centre of the facility. In addition to this, the design included the state of the art anti-ligature alarm points and a robust security system.
A BREEAM Excellent rating was achieved on this project.
