Operating Theatres, The Royal Bolton Hospital

Our team was commissioned by iFM Bolton Ltd to deliver RIBA Stages 1 to 4 from strategic outline assessment to detailed design and delivery for Phase 1 of the New Fully HBN/HTM Compliant Operating Theatres project at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

This project utilised modern methods of construction, which involved the construction of the modular operating theatres off-site within a factory. The facility included a new ultra-clean operating theatre suite, a 16-bed first-stage and second-stage recovery area, and ancillary spaces. It was also designed to accommodate a future second phase, which features an additional two theatres and a bespoke day case paediatrics theatre hub above which could be connected directly on top of the new ground floor modular block.

The S I Sealy team surveyed the site and determined the site wide capacity of the connected services to establish the ideal location for the new modular theatre complex. Infrastructure assessments on steam, condensate, medical gases, essential LV and communication systems were needed to inform the strategy.
