Redden Court Senior School, New Build Science & Sports Blocks
Client: Spatial Initiative
Architect: AHR Architects
Budget: £6.5m
Completed: 2019
This project involved the design and build of two new two-storey modular buildings on the site of an existing 5FE Senior School. The overall project consisted of a new activity block to the south of the existing school which comprises activity studios, fitness suite, changing facilities and group rooms; and a new Science block to the north of the existing school comprising of staff rooms, preparation rooms, SEN spaces, group rooms and science and technology classrooms.
As the site remained a live educational environment throughout the works, phasing of the works was strategically planned and coordinated to ensure minimal disruption and safe working conditions.
Our team provided the detailed MEP design and full building and energy modelling services to prove compliance with TM52 (Thermal Comfort) and CBDM (Climate Based Daylight Modelling). The modular buildings benefit from a low energy hybrid ventilation system with heat recovery supplied by above-ceiling mounted units in all classroom areas to provide a comfortable environment in line with Part L and CIBSE TM52, gas condensing boiler and high efficiency condensing storage water heater. All these energy efficiency measures resulted in a 24% improvement to Part L.
