We provided full design duties of the new 4 storey building which houses the Transitional Research Facility 2 and Critical Care Unit. The Facility consists of write-up areas, laboratories and tissue culture suites, housing both traditional fume cupboards and re-circulation HEPA filter cabinets with a pressure regime requirement across the facility. The area also contains a cold room and Dewer nitrogen store, together with associated plant rooms on floors below and above.
The design required careful consideration of all aspects of the services, including routing within the occupied floor below and future-proofing the floor and extract plant room above the top floor. Due to restrictions in Clinical Requirements, sustainability in ventilation was limited apart from some energy conservation measures.
