Tower Wood Outdoor Education Centre, Lancashire
Client: Lancashire County Council
Budget: £3.5m
Completed: 2013
Through S I Sealy’s long standing Framework agreement with Lancashire County Council, we were appointed to undertake fully detailed design works for the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering services associated with the new outdoor activity centre located at Tower Wood, Lake Windermere.
The project is a new build outdoor activity centre with approximately 1000m2 of accommodation with a mixture of en-suite bedrooms, lounges, kitchen areas and communal areas. The client had a strong desire to provide a highly sustainable development.
Lancashire County Council separately commissioned S I Sealy to undertake a highly detailed low/zero carbon Feasibility Study which identified that the building should be provided with the following renewable and low carbon technologies: rain water harvesting, air to water heat pumps to provide both space heating and low temperature domestic hot water, extensive use of natural ventilation and solar hot water.
