We were commissioned by Wates Construction to complete a feasibility report and full MEP design for the two-storey classroom extension at Worthington Road Primary school. The new extension, which is attached to the original building via a link corridor, adds four new classrooms, WCs, cloakrooms and a platform lift to the existing school.
Each classroom utilises hybrid thermal mixing ventilation units with an LPHW coil to provide ventilation and heat. LED lighting was delivered throughout the design with dimmable LCM boxes and combined PIR utilising combined presence/absence detection and photocells for daylight linking.
The new extension utilises the existing water and gas services from the main school building, which were stripped out and re-directed as part of early enabling works. We designed the services to provide optimum flexibility, ease of use, and low energy consumption whilst providing detailed guidance on fabric and system efficiency standards to comply with Part L.
