Successful handover of £8m ‘With Care’ scheme, Dahlia House
The £8m environmentally friendly ‘With Care’ development for Southway Housing Trust, Dahlia House, is preparing to accept new residents this month after construction work completed.
The ‘With Care’ scheme situated in Burnage, south of Manchester, offers a range of 34 one-bedroom homes and 22 two-bedroom homes with a flexible range of on-site care packages and support for people over 55. The site also includes a community café open to residents and the public, a communal lounge, scooter room, offices, meeting rooms, landscaped gardens and assisted bathrooms.
The development is designed to maximise carbon reduction and incorporates ground source heat pumps, and was constructed to high standards of thermal performance and airtightness, which has resulted in each dwelling achieving a significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to the building regulation “notional building”.
Dahlia House is the second of Southway’s ‘With Care’ developments to be completed following the opening last year of Gorton Mill House and delivers on Southway Housing Trust’s aim to heat all new build properties utilising renewable heating and hot water systems. S I Sealy provided LZC feasibility studies, MEP services performance duties, and construction phase monitoring for both developments.
